Atrazine is a selective systemic herbicide that is primarily absorbed by the roots of plants, with the leaves also capable of absorption. It is transported through the xylem and accumulates in the apical meristem. As an inhibitor of photochemical and electron transfer, it acts on the receptor site of photosystem II. Maize's tolerance to atrazine is primarily attributed to the rapid detoxification effect of glutathione transferase. This herbicide can be applied either pre-emergence or post-emergence to control annual broadleaf weeds and annual grass weeds in cornfields, sorghum fields, sugarcane fields, pineapple fields, and non-cultivated land. It is often used in combination with other herbicides. However, some crops are sensitive to atrazine, including vegetables, potatoes, soybeans, and peanuts.
