Sulfometuron-methyl is an off-white to white powder, belonging to the sulfonylurea class of systemic, post-emergence, selective herbicides. After being applied to the foliage, it can be absorbed by the stems, leaves, and roots of weeds. It is then translocated within the plant. By inhibiting acetolactate synthase, it blocks the biosynthesis of valine and isoleucine, thereby preventing cell division and ultimately causing the weeds to die.It mainly used for the control of annual and perennial grasses and broad-leaved weeds in non-crop land and forestry. wheat, barley, soybeans, and other crops during the early stages.
