What is Mepiquat chloride?

Mepiquat chloride (N, N-dimethylpiperidinium chloride), well known as PIX, is a potential systemic plant growth regulator. It is applied in cereals including wheat, oats, barley, rye, triticale and is extensively used in the cotton production. It is intended to increase yield by inhibiting gibberellic acid synthesis. The use of mepiquat chloride results in a shorter and more compact plant, lower leaf area index due to smaller leaf size and earlier maturity.

What are the main benefits of using Mepiquat Chloride on cotton?

1. Mepiquat Chloride promotes the growth of the lower root system, especially fibrous roots, in cotton seedlings. It also enhances chlorophyll synthesis, improves photosynthesis, and increases stress resistance, helping cotton seedlings better withstand adverse weather conditions. 2.  Mepiquat Chloride significantly inhibits the elongation of cotton plants and fruit branches, resulting in a compact plant type. This helps reduce shedding of middle and lower cotton bolls, ultimately leading to increased yields of up to 10%-20%.
