MCPA is a selective, hormonal, and systemic herbicide belonging to the phenoxyacetic acid family. It exhibits strong physiological activity towards plants. At low concentrations, it stimulates plant growth, prevents flower and fruit drop, facilitates the formation of seedless fruits, accelerates fruit ripening, and promotes rooting in cuttings. However, at high concentrations, it inhibits the growth of dicotyledonous plants, causing deformities and even death. MCPA is particularly sensitive to the seedlings of gramineous plants, but their resistance increases from the four-leaf stage onwards, peaking at the end of tillering, and then rising again during the young panicle differentiation stage. Therefore, the optimal application timing should be between the five-leaf stage and the end of tillering.MCPA is used in crops such as rice, wheat, and corn to control broadleaf weeds like monochoria, water hyssop, water amaranth, wild mustard, Cayratia japonica, and thistle, as well as sedges belonging to the Cyperaceae family.
