Abamectin exhibits both stomach poison and contact killing effects on mites and insects, but it does not have ovicidal activity. Its mechanism of action differs from typical insecticides by interfering with neurophysiological activities, stimulating the release of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), which inhibits neural transmission in arthropods. When adult mites, nymphs, and larval insects come into contact with abamectin, they exhibit paralysis symptoms, becoming inactive and ceasing to feed, ultimately leading to death within 2 to 4 days. Since it does not cause rapid dehydration in insects, the lethal effect of abamectin is relatively slow. Although abamectin has a direct contact killing effect on predatory insects and parasitic natural enemies, its residual amounts on plant surfaces are minimal, resulting in minimal damage to beneficial insects. In soil, abamectin is adsorbed by the soil and does not move, and it is degraded by microorganisms, thus it does not accumulate in the environment and can be used as a component of integrated pest management. It is easy to prepare; simply pour the formulation into water and stir slightly before use. Additionally, it is relatively safe for crops.
