Sulcotrione is a ketone-based herbicide used for controlling broadleaf weeds and grassy weeds in corn, sugarcane fields. It works by being absorbed and conducted through the young roots of weeds. When sensitive weeds absorb the herbicide, it inhibits the synthesis of 4-hydroxyphenylpyruvate dioxygenase, leading to the accumulation of tyrosine. This, in turn, blocks the biosynthesis of plastoquinone and biophenols, further affecting the biosynthesis of carotenoids. Consequently, the weeds turn white and eventually die.
