Solubility	It is almost insoluble in water, but it is miscible with ethanol, 2-propanol, propylene glycol and cottonseed oil.
Toxicity	The acute oral LD50 value of male rats is approximately 2,000 mg/kg. Feeding rats with feed containing 1% DEET (N,N-Diethyl-meta-toluamide) for 200 days shows no adverse effects. The undiluted compound can irritate the mucous membranes, but applying DEET at repellent concentration on the face and arms every day only causes mild irritation.
Use	It is a broad-spectrum insect repellent that has a repelling effect on a variety of biting insects in different environments. It can repel stable flies, midges, black flies, chiggers, deer flies, fleas, gnats, horseflies, mosquitoes, sand flies, small flying insects, house flies, and ticks.
